Emergency Medical Responder Course Components

Class Limit: Based on Class Location

Tuition per Student: $200.00

Purpose: This course is designed to provide students with basic life support (BLS) skills and knowledge to safely stabilize, assess, and monitor a pre-hospital patient.

Content: The student will receive specific training in scene safety, CPR/AED, airway management, patient stabilization, medical and trauma assessment, specific patient medical populations, equipment utilization and transport procedures. This will be a hands-on, skill dependent course.

Audience: This course is intended for all first responders in a pre-hospital situation who will provide care and manage patients until more advanced BLS and Advanced Life Support (ALS) personnel arrive on scene.

Prerequisites: Student must be sixteen (16) years old by the first scheduled class date for the course. Student must have sufficient self-motivation to complete all aspects of the course and a completed registration with all appropriate signatures and permissions from current agency and parents.

Emergency Medical Responder Refresher Course Components

Tuition per Student: $50.00

Class Limit: Minimum six (6)

Purpose

This course is designed to provide the re-certifying EMR to assess and review content areas and skills required by first responders in their role as an on-scene, pre-hospital emergency responder.

Content

This course will provide hands-on review of skills and content areas relating to scene safety, CPR/AED, airway management, patient stabilization, medical and trauma patient assessment, specific patient medical populations, equipment utilization and transport procedures.

National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the Delaware EMT

This National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) course meets the National EMS Education Standards guidelines from the National Highway Safety Administration National Standards for Emergency Medical Technicians. The curriculum will utilize classroom and hands-on skill development to provide the student with experiences in scene safety, patient assessment, specific patient populations, developing patient treatment plans, patient stabilization and transport, ambulance operations, special operations, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, specific patient medical conditions and treatment, and other related curriculum topics. Upon successful completion of this course and the NREMT Psychomotor Skills, the student will be able to sit for the NREMT EMT Assessment Examination. Upon successful completion of the NREMT examination, the student may apply for State of Delaware EMT status which requires affiliation with a Delaware EMS Agency.

Emergency Medical Technician Course

Purpose: The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians course meets the National EMS Education Standards guidelines. The curriculum provides the student with in-depth knowledge and skill-based training to successfully assess, stabilize, monitor, and transport pre-hospital patients in a dynamic 911 ambulance service setting. This will allow for daily interaction with working Delaware NREMT’s and provide the daily contact of all phases of a 911 ambulance operation. Once all coursework is complete, the student will be prepared for the NREMT National Certification Exam. Preparation of the student’s State of Delaware EMT application and all state certifying, and re-certifying, requirements will also be covered. Students will be assisted with setting-up their personal NREMT account. All students are required to be affiliated with a Delaware EMS agency prior to their State of Delaware EMT application.

Content: All aspects of pre-hospital emergency care will be covered in this course. Assessment, stabilization, treatment and monitoring, transport, documentation and follow-up, as well as, daily and special operations, are included in this course. A combination of self-study, group learning and hands-on skill activities will deliver the up-to-date national curriculum and

Delaware BLS Protocols in an interesting and appropriate manner. It is highly recommended that student enter this course with a commitment to participate and prepare for a strenuous but exciting experience.

Course Availability and Tuition: This course can be offered/scheduled whenever necessary to serve the high demands for qualified NREMT’s in Delaware. American Legion Ambulance, Station 64, Inc., will support this course through student tuition which may be supplemented by internships, grants and other various means. Student tuition is $1,200.00 payable upon registration with all necessary registration requirements. Class size is limited to fifteen (15). Students can receive a tuition refund if they drop-out of class prior to mid-point and refund will be determined by per class cost less materials. After class mid-point, no refund will be allowed. This class is a one hundred (180) student contact hour commitment. Class attendance is critical for student success.

Emergency Medical Technician Refresher
(Re-certification)

Purpose: This course will provide the most current and up-dated information that the NREMT will need to re-certify through the NREMT and State of Delaware agencies to continue providing pre-hospital care to patients.

Content: This refresher will be based on the National Core Curriculum Program (NCCP) as stated in the National EMS Education Standards guidelines. This will be a twenty-four hour (30) minimum class with mandatory attendance. The current Delaware BLS Protocols will be covered with all appropriate hands-on skills demonstrated with respect to equipment and medications and individual patient assessments. This course may also include instruction in the American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR/AED re-certification. Instruction will be participatory and hands-on with required demonstration of understanding and knowledge through multiple instructional strategies.

Course Availability and Tuition: This course can be offered/scheduled whenever necessary to serve the high demands for re-certification of NREMT’s in Delaware. American Legion Ambulance, Station 64, Inc., will provide this course through tuition at a per student cost of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00), upon registration. This course is available to any Delaware NREMT which needs re-certification.

Field Training Officer Professional Development Seminar

This classroom seminar will allow the field training officer candidate to recognize and define those skills and principles which are required to successfully engage with EMT candidates working through their field training experiences. Ultimately all EMT candidates must transition from classroom certification to field experience qualification. Many principles of mentoring, transfer of gained knowledge, multitasking and understanding of the accumulation of skills and experiences are examined. The field training officer candidate will utilize scenario based examples of real world issues that occur in the field to help the newly certified EMT transition to a cleared and confident EMT. Examples of evaluation tools and the way they can be used to strengthen skills and prepare the EMT to accept and adapt gained experiences toward a successful transition are provided to the student.

Purpose

To provide a platform for the field training officer to accommodate the broad needs of newly certified EMT’s as they transition to field trained EMT’s. A wide variety of techniques will be presented for all students to examine and add to their particular role as a field training officer.

Content

This course will present strategies for the field training officer to mentor and instruct their newly certified EMT’s through the process of field training. Educational theories, interpersonal relationship strategies, and out-of-the-box techniques will be presented to facilitate the understanding of techniques needed for the transitional development of EMT’s to the field.

Course Availability and Tuition

This course can be offered/scheduled whenever necessary to meet the demand for qualified field training officers in Delaware. American Legion Ambulance, Station 64, Inc., will provide this course through tuition at a per student cost of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00), upon registration. This course is available to any Delaware NREMT which requires certification. This is a six (6) hour CEU class.
